Should I really use Quora to promote my SaaS product?

If the above question keeps bothering you then this article is for you.

Quora is a hub where people share or seek information in the form of questions and answers. It’s a platform to build your thought leadership presence and confirm authority in your niche, but more importantly – help others seek answers to pressing questions.

With more than 300 million active users, Quora is, without a doubt, one of the amazing platforms for B2B SaaS marketing.

But only if you do so strategically. Let’s share some of the tips from our in-house content marketing experts.

1. Optimize your profile to build thought leadership in your niche

No matter which platform you’re on, be it on Instagram or Quora, optimizing your profile is a must to stay ahead of the game. Having a sound profile that showcases your credibility makes it super easy for readers to trust you without having a second thought.

Well, it also boosts your uniqueness and authenticity on the platform. And most importantly, it’s one of the few elements that will be visible along with your name in the search results.

Think of it like your Instagram bio or LinkedIn headline. It’s the first thing people look at when they come across your profile. So spend some time adding your expertise shortly and crisply.

Unlike LinkedIn, Quora allows you to add links in your profile bio, making it easy to direct followers to your website or ask them to download your lead magnet.

Here’s how an optimized profile looks like:

2. Make sure your answers include the right mix of educational and promotional content

No one would like to read an answer that is trying to sell them. Well, we aren’t saying you shouldn’t promote your business but there’s a way to do it.

Quora is a question and answer platform where people come to find solutions to their problems. Most of them could be your potential customers or a lead for your business as well.
So what’s the right way to approach them by maintaining a balance between promoting your business and sharing a valuable answer? By applying the 80/20 rule.

The 80/20 rule states that 80% of the content should be about helping the audience —  meaning, educating with all the information possible, and only 20% should be about promoting your business.

For instance, assume you’re someone who sells video editing software. So you might look for questions related to video editing, it could be as simple as “how to add music to a video” or as complex as “best transitions to add in a cinematic video” be it any case, your major focus needs to be in helping the person with the best answer possible.

So how do you go about it?

Well, you can simply answer by showing a detailed process of how the music is added to a video in “your software”, you can include the images of the whole process, you can also show some of the hacks & shortcuts. And for the latter, you can list down all the transitions that make a cinematic video appealing and also are available on your software. This way you’re helping by educating the audience and also subtly promoting your software.

3. Add your website link to drive traffic organically

There are plenty of ways to add links on Quora. You can include the link in your answers as well in your profile bio.

But there are few restrictions Quora has when it comes to adding multiple links. Quora has stated that links whose purpose appears to be to direct traffic to external commercial sites while providing little to no value back to the Quora Community will be removed as spam.

You can add links only when relevant to the topic and not because you want to drive traffic to your website.

For instance, if we are talking about content marketing in our answers, linking to any of our blogs related to content marketing is totally fine.

Also, when you add multiple links Quora moderators reduce the reach of your answers i.e your answer won’t rank at the top

4. Run ads on your best answers

Promoting your best answer as an ad could be a great way to generate leads or drive quality traffic to your website. And the major reason includes:

First, people look for text content and not images or videos on Quora. So if you’re promoting an answer that is already liked by people, there are high chances for people to interact with your ad.

Second, Quora allows you to target an audience searching for certain questions, so promoting your answer based on these questions could also help in targeting the right audience.
Again, Quora is a question and answer platform, your answer will resonate with your audience only when they find exceptional value in it. So don’t assume running ads can guarantee you conversions.

5. Track the performance of your content constantly

Like how you need an analytics tool to track the performance of your content on any other platforms, you need the same on Quora.

Quora has its own analytics feature where you can review all of the analytics for the questions you’ve answered. You’ll be able to track everything from how many people viewed your answer to how many people upvoted it.

Analyzing the performance of your answers can help you understand what’s working and what’s not. So keep tweaking the way you answer the questions. 🙂

6. Answer questions that may not be directly associated with your business

If you just stick to looking for opportunities to promote your business, Quora might not be the best place for you.

Sometimes your followers might check the list of questions you’ve answered. And if all your answers are related to your business then one can easily understand you’re on the platform just to sell.

For instance, if you have a video editing tool then answering some of the questions related to photo editing can help you go a long way in building a good rapport.

7. Engage with other people’s answers on questions

Just like the way you engage on a social media post with a like or a comment, it’s the same with Quora as well. You can upvote/downvote an answer, add your thoughts in the comments and even share it with your friends.

This will help you analyze the topics trending in your niche and the way how people respond to them.
